Book Blog

The book I read was called Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It is a realistic fiction book about a group of young boys. The story takes place on an unknown island. In the beginning, we learn that a group of British school boys are stranded on an island after their plane crashes. As the story continues, they find out that they aren't the only ones on the island.

I thought the most exciting part of the book was at the end when half of the group turned on the leader, Ralph. Before this, Ralph had everything organized. Then the kids that hunted food wanted the main thing for everyone to do was to hunt. But, Ralph said fire and smoke was the most important thing because then they had a chance to be rescued. So all of a sudden, the group split into two and were against each other. Ralph ended up alone when they started fighting so the other group was chasing him down. Also, the other group set the island's forest on fire to chase ralph off. So when they all ran out onto the beach, there was a rescue team there who saw the fire. I thought that was really the best part of the book because the rest of the book, I thought, was really boring.

My favorite character in this story was Ralph. I would describe him as a leader because he stood up to be the leader and was the only kid to take charge of the group. For example, he organized the group into parts so each part had a job to do. The jobs were hunting food, gathering fruit, making shelters, tending to the fire, and cooking the food. He also seems brave because nobody else began to take charge and he always did the dangerous things that the others didn't want to do.
